The Connected Consumer Trend Report

Understanding how advancements in technology affect consumer sentiment and drive purchase decisions

Hope and Skepticism in a Tech-Driven World

When it comes to technology, consumers today are torn between excitement and hesitation. To better understand this push and pull, Assurant developed the Tech Sentiment Index (TSI), a measure of how people feel about technology overall. This year’s TSI comes in at 58.7. While this leans slightly positive, it’s clear there’s a balance of emotions in play. For businesses, this signals an opportunity to address both the hope and the skepticism that define today’s tech landscape.

A Closer Look at the TSI Score

The Tech Sentiment Index is designed to offer a snapshot of how people feel about living in today’s connected world by blending emotional reactions, perceived impacts, and awareness around emerging trends. At 58.7, the TSI reveals a complex array of emotions tied to consumer perception of technology.

Positive Reactions: Consumers often feel curiosity (60%) and excitement (52%), especially when it comes to innovations that improve their quality of life.

Negative Reactions: Skepticism (38%) and anxiety (34%) remain strong, with particular concern around privacy, data security, and the complexity of new tech.
