New York, November 1, 2004—Assurant, Inc. ("Assurant") (NYSE: AIZ), a leading provider of specialized insurance and insurance-related products and services, today announced that Thomas Cunningham has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Co-Head of Fixed Income, Assurant Asset Management, effective November 1, 2004. Mr. Cunningham is currently Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager and Head of Credit Research, Assurant Asset Management. The Company has also appointed Eric Greenman Senior Vice President and Co-Head of Fixed Income, Assurant Asset Management. Mr. Greenman was formerly Vice President, Fortis Advisers (now Assurant Asset Management) until 2001; he will return to Assurant and assume his new position as of November 1, 2004.

As Co-Heads of Fixed Income, Mr. Cunningham and Mr. Greenman will report to the Company's Chief Investment Officer and will share responsibility for overall fixed-income investment strategy. They will both be members of the investment committees of Assurant's four businesses. Mr. Cunningham will also focus his efforts on the investment grade bond portfolio, while Mr. Greenman will concentrate on quantitative analysis, the structured products portfolio, as well as supervising third-party asset managers.
Mr. Cunningham joined Assurant in 1999 as Second Vice President of Fixed Income. Previously, he was a Vice President at Prudential Investments. Mr. Greenman was most recently Director, Quantitative Strategies at New York Life Investment Management. He also held positions at Chase Securities, Inc., Merrill Lynch-Futures Investment Partners and Kidder, Peabody & Co., Inc.
Mr. Cunningham holds a B.A. from Cornell University and M.B.A. from Fordham University. Mr. Greenman has a B.S. from Babson College and M.B.A. from Columbia Business School. They are both Chartered Financial Analysts.
