Robert A. Lonergan

Bob Lonergan is executive vice president, chief strategy and transformation officer (CSTO) of Assurant and a member of the management committee. In this role, Mr. Lonergan leads Strategy, M&A, Assurant Ventures, Risk Management, AI, Data Analytics, Experience, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability, driving long-term value creation, accelerating enterprise priorities, deepening consumer insights, and elevating brand relevance across key stakeholder groups.

Mr. Lonergan is focused on amplifying Assurant’s strategic momentum, driving innovation in go-to-market strategies and evolving the client delivery model to unlock global value. His leadership aligns transformation efforts with market dynamics, stakeholder expectations and long-term growth objectives.

Since joining Assurant in 2012, Mr. Lonergan has led more than 50 M&A transactions and growth investments, helping refocus the company’s strategy on global housing and lifestyle markets. He also led the transformation of Risk Management to best position the company to handle future risks and uncertainty. Before his current role, Mr. Lonergan served as executive vice president, chief marketing and risk officer since 2023, and executive vice president, chief strategy and risk officer since 2020. 

Prior to his appointment as executive vice president, chief strategy officer in 2016, Mr. Lonergan served as senior vice president of Growth and Innovation, where he established a ventures team to invest in early-stage companies. He also served as vice president of Sourcing, creating an M&A sourcing function aligned with strategic goals.

Before Assurant, Mr. Lonergan worked at Bain & Company, where he helped launch the private equity practice in Atlanta. He began his career at Credit Suisse First Boston as an M&A analyst.

Mr. Lonergan holds a master’s of business administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor of arts in economics from Davidson College.
