Joseph A. Surber III

Joseph A. Surber III is chief technology officer at Assurant, Inc. and a member of the Company’s Management Committee.  As CTO, he oversees Assurant’s global technology  organization, including digital, security, infrastructure  and cloud services, and business and enterprise  applications.

Mr. Surber joined the company in 2016 as senior vice  president, IT strategy and transformation for the  global technology organization. In that role, he had  oversight for project and portfolio management,  enterprise applications, enterprise architecture,  innovation, IT M&A, and strategy. During his tenure  with Assurant, he has led the transformation of its  technology operating model, which accelerated the  modernization of multiple strategic platforms and the development of the Company’s cloud  architecture. He is focused on delivering value to clients and customers through innovative  solutions that drive growth while continuously improving service delivery.

Mr. Surber also has led technology integration for merger and acquisition activities, including the integration of The Warranty Group in 2018, Assurant’s largest acquisition as a public  company.

Prior to joining Assurant, Mr. Surber was senior vice president and chief information officer for AGL Resources since 2008, where he was responsible for enhancing the technology  platform to align with business goals. His leadership extended to enterprise corporate  services, including supply chain, fleet, real estate, and facilities.

Mr. Surber holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia.
