    Alan B. Colberg

    President and Chief Executive Officer
    Assurant, Inc.

    Alan Colberg is president and chief executive officer of Assurant, Inc., and a director of the Company's board of directors. He was named president Sept. 16, 2014, and assumed the role of CEO and director on Jan. 1, 2015. 

    Mr. Colberg is responsible for building a stronger Assurant for the future and driving profitable growth that leads to outperformance for Assurant’s customers, employees and shareholders. Under his leadership, in April 2015, Assurant realigned its business strategy to build upon its core capabilities and further capitalize on global trends in the housing and lifestyle protection markets. The strategy includes a sharper focus on understanding consumers in order to deliver integrated products and services that address their needs and generate opportunities for growth.

    Mr. Colberg champions innovation and an “enterprise mindset” of working collaboratively across the organization in order to better serve customers around the world.

    Previously, Mr. Colberg served as Assurant's executive vice president of marketing and business development, managing Assurant strategy development and overseeing marketing, mergers and acquisitions, business growth and innovation initiatives. He played an integral role in supporting strategies that helped reposition the company for profitable growth after the financial crisis.

    Before joining Assurant in March 2011, Mr. Colberg was a consultant for Bain & Company, Inc., for 22 years, serving as an advisor to Assurant during much of this time.  While at Bain he founded and then led Bain’s Atlanta office for more than a decade and served as Bain’s global practice leader for Financial Services.

    Mr. Colberg is a passionate advocate for education initiatives and has supported strengthening the company’s commitment to financial literacy. This has led Assurant to launch financial education initiatives for employees within the company and strengthen its commitment to helping future generations succeed. As a trustee of the Assurant Foundation, he has overseen an increased commitment to Junior Achievement in Georgia. Assurant also partners with JA across the country through volunteerism and donations.

    Mr. Colberg was elected to CarMax’s board of directors in October 2015, and is a member of the company’s Audit Committee.  In addition, he is a member of the Business Roundtable and the Financial Services Roundtable.  Previously he served on the boards of the Woodruff Arts Center, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the board of the Atlanta International School.

    In 2010, Consulting Magazine named him one of the world's top 25 consultants, recognizing him for demonstrated excellence in the financial services sector.

    Mr. Colberg holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance with highest honors from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

    Gene E. Mergelmeyer

    Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer
    Assurant, Inc.

    Gene Mergelmeyer is executive vice president, chief operating officer for Assurant, Inc. In this role, Mr. Mergelmeyer oversees Assurant’s global operations and is responsible for the profits and losses for its business units. He helps guide the Company’s transformation and ensures its coordinated approach across the housing and lifestyle markets to drive long-term, profitable growth. He is credited with architecting Assurant’s new enterprise operating model structure that underscores the Company’s commitment to further integration, enhanced agility and a stronger brand across the world.

    Previously, Mr. Mergelmeyer served as president and chief executive officer of Assurant’s specialty property business, overseeing its organic growth, the development of its risk management service offerings and expansion into adjacent businesses within the mortgage and multifamily housing industries. Under his leadership, the specialty property business more than doubled its revenue since 2006.

    In 2014, Mr. Mergelmeyer, who has more than 30 years of experience in financial services and insurance, was named to the additional roles of executive vice president and chief administrative officer of Assurant, Inc.  In this capacity, he was responsible for the Company’s technology infrastructure and the Enterprise Transformation Group, which explored new ways to deliver customer service, technology, finance and vendor management services.

    Mr. Mergelmeyer joined Assurant in 1997 when the Company acquired Insureco, where he served as chief financial officer. Previously, he held senior management positions at a division of Transamerica and at the public accounting firm Peat Marwick, now KPMG.

    Mr. Mergelmeyer shares Assurant’s commitment to community and has championed the Company’s efforts in support of Habitat for Humanity and Junior Achievement of Georgia. Assurant’s activities in support of these organizations were recognized with Communitas Awards for community service from the Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals in 2015 and 2016. Assurant also was honored in 2014 and 2013 with an Olens Award for leadership in community affairs from the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce in suburban Atlanta.

    Mr. Mergelmeyer is a longtime supporter of the Orange County United Way, the Children’s Neuroblastoma Cancer Foundation in Bloomingdale, Ill., the Blind Children’s Learning Center in Los Angeles, and Children’s Hospitals of Orange County and Los Angeles.

    He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University - Long Beach.

  • Michael Campbell

    Michael P. Campbell

    President, Global Home
    Assurant, Inc.

    Michael P. Campbell is president, global home business unit of Assurant, Inc. and a member of the Company’s Management Committee. In this role, he oversees Assurant’s lender-placed insurance, mortgage valuations, mortgage technology, field services, flood and voluntary home insurance business lines, which generated more than $2 billion in revenue in 2015.

    Previously, Mr. Campbell served as executive vice president, chief operating officer for the Company’s specialty property lines of business, managing day-to-day operations and leading major transformation initiatives. He also was responsible for the growth of the Company’s fee-based, mortgage valuation, mortgage technology and field services lines of business, directing product development and overseeing business acquisitions.

    Mr. Campbell joined Assurant in 2006 through the acquisition of Safeco’s FIS subsidiary. At Safeco, he held several executive roles of increasing responsibility before being named president of that company’s lender-placed insurance business. After joining Assurant, he served as senior vice president, product line executive, and was responsible for property insurance and fee-income product management.

    Mr. Campbell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in financial management from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He serves on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Club South Coast Area in San Clemente, California.

  • Keith Demmings

    Keith W. Demmings

    President, Global Lifestyle
    Assurant, Inc.

    Keith W. Demmings is president, global lifestyle business unit of Assurant, Inc. and a member of the Company’s Management Committee. He is responsible for setting strategy, driving financial performance and leading Assurant’s connected living lines of business, comprising its mobile phone and extended protection plan products and related services, as well as vehicle protection, credit protection and assistance services lines of business. Assurant’s global lifestyle business serves more than 150 million customers worldwide and generated more than $3.6 billion in revenue 2015.

    Since joining Assurant in 1997, Mr. Demmings has held a series of executive leadership positions, including serving as president and CEO of Assurant’s Canadian business, the Company’s largest operation outside of the United States. He served in this role for eight years, adding additional responsibility for Asia operations during that tenure. Mr. Demming’s role was expanded in 2012 to include overall accountability and management of Assurant’s global presence across all business lines, with operations throughout Asia, Canada, Europe, Central and South America and the Caribbean. As executive vice president and president, international, he was responsible for strengthening Assurant’s international footprint, expanding its capabilities and improving its competitive position. In 2013, he was named executive vice president and president, global markets for Assurant, adding responsibilities for the connected living lines of business. 

    Mr. Demmings holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Victoria in British Columbia.

  • Richard Dziadzio

    Richard Dziadzio

    Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer
    Assurant, Inc.

    Richard Dziadzio is executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer for Assurant, Inc. In this role, Mr. Dziadzio oversees Assurant’s global finance operation and has responsibility for the business segment finance teams, asset management and tax functions.  Reporting to Assurant’s CEO, Mr. Dziadzio is a member of the company’s management committee.  In his role as CFO, he is responsible for leading and integrating the company’s global finance organization, working in close alignment with Assurant’s operations and risk functions.  He will help guide the transformation of the company’s finance organization, ensuring its coordinated approach in both the housing and lifestyle markets, across the company’s geographic footprint and in alignment with the operations and risk functions to drive long-term, profitable growth.

    Before joining Assurant, Mr. Dziadzio was CFO of QBE North America.  Prior to that, Mr. Dziadzio served as CFO for ANV, a global specialty insurance company.  From 1994 to 2012, he held a series of positions of increasing responsibility at AXA Group and was named CFO for AXA Equitable Life Insurance and AXA Financial in 2007.

    Mr. Dziadzio holds a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD in Fontainbleau, France and received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

  • Robert A. Lonergan

    Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer
    Assurant, Inc.

    Robert A. Lonergan is executive vice president, chief strategy officer of Assurant, Inc. and a member of the Company’s Management Committee. In this role, he is responsible for shaping the Company’s enterprise strategy with a focus on driving long-term profitable growth at Assurant.

    During his tenure at Assurant, Mr. Lonergan has helped lead 17 mergers and acquisitions transactions and growth investments that have helped the Company refocus its business strategy on the global housing and lifestyle markets. Prior to his appointment as chief strategy officer, he served as senior vice president, growth and innovation and led a team responsible for driving growth initiatives across the enterprise with a buy, build, invest and partner strategy. In that role, he also established a growth investing team to identify opportunities for investing in high-growth potential, early stage companies to generate both strategic and financial returns for Assurant. Prior to that role, he served as vice president, sourcing at the Company, establishing an M&A sourcing function to ensure the strategic alignment of transactions with the Company’s business strategy and to adopt a proactive mindset in regards to M&A deals.

    Before joining Assurant in 2012, Mr. Lonergan worked at Bain & Company, Inc. There he helped start and grow the company’s private equity practice in Atlanta, leading due diligence activities on more than 25 potential acquisitions. He began his career working at Credit Suisse First Boston working as a mergers and acquisition analyst.

    Mr. Lonergan holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Davidson College.

    Francesca Luthi

    Executive Vice President, Chief Communication and Marketing Officer
    Assurant, Inc.

    Francesca Luthi is executive vice president, chief communication and marketing officer of Assurant and a member of the Company’s Management Committee. In this role, she oversees all aspects of Assurant’s global marketing and brand strategy, internal and external communication, community relations and investor relations activities. She is responsible for building the Company’s global brand and reputation among key stakeholders, driving consumer awareness and engagement, for Assurant’s specialty products and services.

    As part of the Company’s multi-year transformation, she led the integration and restructuring of the organization's marketing and communications functions to support Assurant's growth strategy while also increasing efficiency.

    In 2015, Ms. Luthi was promoted to her role from her position as senior vice president, investor relations, marketing and communication. In that role, Ms. Luthi has led the communication strategy for all of Assurant’s strategic business initiatives and the Company’s corporate realignment. 

    Before joining Assurant in 2012, Ms. Luthi was senior vice president of corporate communication and investor relations at Accretive Health. Previously, she held senior-level investor relations and communication roles at BearingPoint and Accenture, where she was recognized for enhancing brand awareness, expanding the global shareholder base and overseeing the repositioning of those businesses. During her tenure, Accenture was recognized with “Best IR Team in the IT Services Industry” by Institutional Investor magazine for three consecutive years.

    Earlier in her career, Ms. Luthi helped establish the investor relations department at Omnicom Group after serving as a financial analyst in the Investment Banking Division at Morgan Stanley.

    An advocate for education, Ms. Luthi serves on the Advisory Board of the Special Music School at Kaufman Music Center in New York City (P.S. 859), a groundbreaking public school for musically-gifted children.

    Ms. Luthi received a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.

    Christopher J. Pagano

    Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer
    Assurant, Inc.

    Christopher Pagano is executive vice president, chief risk officer and a member of the Company’s Management Committee. In this role, Mr. Pagano will be responsible for building out the enterprise risk management function and developing an integrated view of risk across Assurant.

    Previously, Mr. Pagano served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Assurant. Mr. Pagano assumed the role of CFO and treasurer in 2014. Before that, he was named executive vice president and treasurer in July 2007 while continuing to serve as president and chief investment officer of Assurant Asset Management, a position to which he was appointed in January 2005. Before that, Mr. Pagano served as executive vice president and head of fixed income of Assurant Asset Management.

    Prior to joining Assurant, he served as vice president at Merrill Lynch in Global Fixed Income Research. He began his career at Morgan Stanley in 1985.

    Mr. Pagano received a Bachelor of Science in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1985. He earned his Master of Business Administration in 1995 from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Pagano is a chartered financial analyst.

    Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer
    Assurant, Inc.


    Robyn Price Stonehill is executive vice president, chief human resource officer of Assurant, Inc., leading the human resources function for the enterprise. Throughout her 17-year career at Assurant, Ms. Price Stonehill has held a variety of leadership roles related to compensation, retirement, health and welfare, and other human resources functions.

    In her role, Ms. Price Stonehill advises leaders on organizational transformation and supports Assurant’s talent, leading global human resource activities with a strong focus of diversity and inclusion, learning and development, enterprise talent development and performance management. She is instrumental in the Company’s multi-year transformation to become a more customer-centric and agile organization to enable its long-term business strategy. As part of this process, she led the restructuring of the human resources function at Assurant, streamlining and integrating processes across the enterprise to increase efficiency and drive business results. 

    As senior vice president, compensation, benefits and shared services from 2011 to 2014, Ms. Price Stonehill set the vision and design of the Total Rewards program and restructured Assurant’s talent acquisition processes, placing greater focus on improving the job candidate experience.

    Ms. Price Stonehill reshaped Assurant’s pension and benefits architecture to improve cost efficiency and increase value to employees while maintaining the competitive benefits needed to attract and retain talent. Under her leadership, employees’ 401(k) participation rose from 55 to more than 93 percent.

    A former actuary, Ms. Price Stonehill, working with Assurant President and CEO Alan Colberg, strives to increase employee financial literacy, and helped to establish a free Financial Fitness pilot program at the company.

    Prior to joining Assurant in 1999, Ms. Price Stonehill advised clients on benefits and retirement issues at Arthur Andersen and KPMG.  

    During her tenure, Assurant has ranked in Workforce Magazine’s 2014 Workforce 100, a list of the world’s top companies for HR, been recognized with a North American CandE Award for improving the candidate experience and received a Well Workplace Award from WELCOA (Wellness Council of America) for its commitment to workplace wellness . In addition, for the fourth consecutive year, Assurant received a Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles® Gold Award from the National Business Group on Health.  

    An advocate for increasing leadership opportunities for women, Ms. Price Stonehill is a board member of the Athena Leadership Council at Barnard College, dedicated to advancing women leaders worldwide. She was recognized for these efforts and her work to increase inclusion at Assurant when she was honored by Profiles in Diversity Journal as a Woman Worth Watching in 2015.

    Ms. Price Stonehill is also a member of the board of directors and finance committee of AMIT, which runs more than 70 schools and educates more than 20,000 children in Israel.

    She graduated summa cum laude from Queens College of the City University of New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics.

    Bart R. Schwartz

    Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary
    Assurant, Inc.

    Bart Schwartz is executive vice president, chief legal officer and secretary of Assurant, Inc. He oversees Assurant's legal department and its compliance, government relations and internal audit functions.  

    Mr. Schwartz has practiced law for more than three decades with leading law firms and major public companies, with expertise in corporate governance and public-company legal and regulatory issues in the insurance and financial services industries.  

    Before joining Assurant in 2008, he served as chief corporate governance officer, corporate secretary and chief securities counsel at The Bank of New York, where he supported the bank’s merger with Mellon Financial Corporation.  

    Previously, Mr. Schwartz, as deputy general counsel and corporate secretary of Marsh & McLennan Companies in New York, was responsible for all corporate legal affairs of the parent company. 

    Mr. Schwartz's legal experience includes serving as senior vice president and general counsel of The MONY Group and as senior vice president and general counsel of Willis Corroon Corporation (now Willis Group Holdings).  He began his career in 1978 as an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton and later worked at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

    Mr. Schwartz is a co-editor and contributing author of “Corporate Governance, Law and Practice,” has published more than 20 articles in professional journals, and has served on the board of directors of the Association of Corporate Counsel.

    Mr. Schwartz’s community contributions include pro bono work through the Legal Aid Society and Human Rights First. 

    He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Antioch College, a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California and a Master of Business Administration degree from Vanderbilt University.

    Ajay Waghray

    Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer
    Assurant, Inc.

    Ajay Waghray is chief technology officer of Assurant, Inc., and a member of the Company’s Management Committee. Based in Atlanta, he is responsible for driving technology strategy and aligning IT with business objectives across Assurant’s global enterprise.

    Throughout his career and notably with Verizon, Mr. Waghray has held positions of increased responsibility. Prior to joining Assurant in May 2016, Mr. Waghray served as chief information officer of Verizon Enterprise Solutions, which provides products and services to a global customer base that includes 98 percent of the Fortune 500. He stepped into the role in 2012, leading the global information technology strategy, systems portfolio development and operations for the then newly created organization. Prior to this, Mr. Waghray served as CIO for Verizon Wireless, where he was instrumental in the company’s 4G/LTE launch and the integration of the Alltel acquisition. Mr. Waghray started his wireless career with Bell Atlantic Mobile in 1997, which later became part of the then newly formed Verizon Wireless.

    Mr. Waghray’s leadership in the technology field has been widely recognized. In 2011, he was named to InformationWeek 500, a list of U.S. technology innovators. He won InfoWorld’s CTO 25 award and a CIO 100 award from CIO magazine in 2010. Two years earlier, he was honored as one of ComputerWorld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders. 

    He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in computer science from West Virginia University, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, India.
