    Elaine D. Rosen

    Non-Executive Chair of the Board

    Ms. Rosen was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in February 2009 and became non-executive chair in November 2010. After serving in various management positions at UNUM Corporation since 1975, Ms. Rosen served as executive vice president of UNUM/Provident Corporation from 1999 to 2001 and as president of UNUM Life Insurance Company of America from 1997 to 1999. She currently is chair of the board of trustees at The Kresge Foundation and is the Chairwoman of the board of directors of Kforce, Inc., where she is chair of its Compensation Committee and a member of both the Nomination and Corporate Governance committees. Ms. Rosen also sits on the board of directors of Preble Street, a collaborative for the homeless and low-income community in Portland, Maine and is the immediate past chair of its board. She also is a trustee of the Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges.

    Howard L. Carver


    Mr. Carver was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in March 2002. Mr. Carver retired as an office managing partner of Ernst & Young in June 2002. Mr. Carver’s career at Ernst & Young spanned five decades, beginning as an auditor and a financial consultant. He currently is a director and serves as a member of the Audit Committee of StoneMor Partners L.P. Mr. Carver is the chair of the board of directors of Pinnacol Assurance, the workers compensation facility for the state of Colorado, and is a member of the company’s Audit Committee and chair of its Governance & Executive Committee. Mr. Carver is a certified public accountant and is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Connecticut Society of CPAs. He also sits on the boards and committees of several organizations including the University of Wisconsin and Wadsworth Atheneum.

    Juan N. Cento


    Mr. Cento was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in May 2006. Mr. Cento is the president of the Latin America and Caribbean Division of FedEx Express, headquartered in Miami. He has more than 30 years of experience in the air cargo and express transportation industry. Previously, he worked with Flying Tigers Line, Inc. and transitioned to FedEx in 1989 when the two companies merged. Mr. Cento is actively involved in several non-profit organizations. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of Baptist Health System and the Council of the Americas. Additionally, Mr. Cento is chair of the board of directors for CLADEC (Conference of Latin American and Caribbean Express Companies) and a board member of the United Way of Miami-Dade.

    Alan B. Colberg

    Chief Executive Officer and Director, Assurant, Inc.

    Alan Colberg is president and chief executive officer of Assurant, Inc., and a director of the company's board of directors. He was named president Sept. 16, 2014, and assumed the role of CEO and director on Jan. 1, 2015.

    Mr. Colberg is responsible for building a stronger Assurant for the future and driving profitable growth that leads to outperformance for Assurant’s customers, employees and shareholders. Under his leadership, in April 2015, Assurant realigned its business strategy to build upon its core capabilities and further capitalize on global trends in the housing and lifestyle markets. The strategy includes a sharper focus on understanding consumers in order to deliver integrated products and services that address their needs and generate opportunities for growth.

    Mr. Colberg champions innovation and an “enterprise mindset” of working collaboratively across the organization in order to better serve customers around the world. 

    Previously, Mr. Colberg served as Assurant's executive vice president of marketing and business development, managing Assurant strategy development and overseeing marketing, mergers and acquisitions, business growth and innovation initiatives. He played an integral role in supporting strategies that helped reposition the company for profitable growth after the financial crisis.

    Before joining Assurant in March 2011, Mr. Colberg was a consultant for Bain & Company, Inc., for 22 years, serving as an advisor to Assurant during much of this time.  While at Bain he founded and then led Bain’s Atlanta office for more than a decade and served as Bain’s global practice leader for Financial Services.

    Mr. Colberg is a passionate advocate for education initiatives and has supported strengthening the company’s commitment to financial literacy. This has led Assurant to launch financial education initiatives for employees within the company and strengthen its commitment to helping future generations succeed. As a trustee of the Assurant Foundation, he has overseen an increased commitment to Junior Achievement (JA) in Georgia. Assurant also partners with JA across the country through volunteerism and donations.

    Mr. Colberg was elected to CarMax’s board of directors in October 2015, and is a member of the company’s Nominating and Governance Committee. In addition, he is a member of the Business Roundtable and the Financial Services Roundtable. Previously he served on the boards of the Woodruff Arts Center, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the board of the Atlanta International School.

    In 2010, Consulting Magazine named him one of the world's top 25 consultants, recognizing him for demonstrated excellence in the financial services sector.

    Mr. Colberg holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance with highest honors from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

    Elyse Douglas


    Ms. Douglas was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in July 2011. Until October 2013, she was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. and The Hertz Corporation, one of the world’s leading car rental companies. Prior to her role at Hertz, Ms. Douglas served as treasurer of Coty, Inc. from December 1999 until July 2006 and as an assistant treasurer of Nabisco, Inc. from June 1995 to December 1999. She also served in various financial services roles for 12 years at Chase Manhattan Bank (now JPMorgan Chase). Ms. Douglas is a certified public accountant and chartered financial analyst.

    Harriet Edelman


    Ms. Edelman was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in August 2017. Since 2010, she has served as vice chairman of Emigrant Savings Bank, a privately held community bank, where she leads the finance, information technology and credit administration operations. She joined the bank in 2008 as a special advisor to the chairman. Ms. Edelman spent 29 years Avon Products Inc., rising to the roles of chief information officer and senior vice president of global supply chain and business transformation. She currently serves on the board of Brinker International, Inc., and has prior public company board experience during the past 15 years with UCB, a global biopharmaceutical company, software company Ariba Inc., The Hershey Company and Blair Corporation. She also serves on the Board of Trustees of Bucknell University.

    Lawrence V. Jackson


    Mr. Jackson was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in July 2009. He is senior advisor with New Mountain Capital, LLC, a New York-based private investment firm, and serves as a board member for several of the firm’s private portfolio companies. He also currently serves as chair for SourceMark, LLC. Previously, Mr. Jackson served as president and chief executive officer, global procurement division, of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Prior to that role, he was the president and chief operating officer of Dollar General Corporation. Mr. Jackson serves on the board of directors of Snyder's-Lance, Inc. and is a member of its Compensation Committee. He also serves on the boards of several portfolio companies.

    Charles J. Koch


    Mr. Koch was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in August 2005. He also sits on the board of directors of Citizens Financial Group, where he is chair of the company’s Risk Committee and a member of the company’s Audit Committee. Mr. Koch also is a public interest director on the board of The Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati and serves on its Personnel and Compensation and Finance and Risk Management committees. Mr. Koch previously served as chair, president and chief executive officer of Charter One Financial, Inc. prior to its sale to The Royal Bank of Scotland. He was a board member of The Royal Bank of Scotland from 2004 to 2009 and Home Properties, Inc., from 2010 to 2013 where he also served as a member of Audit and Compensation committees. Mr. Koch is immediate past chair of the board of trustees of Case Western Reserve University and the past Chair of the Board of Trustees of John Carroll University.

    Jean-Paul L. Montupet


    Mr. Montupet was elected to Assurant's board of directors in September 2012. Until his retirement in December 2012, Mr. Montupet was the chair of Emerson Electric Co.'s Industrial Automation business and president of Emerson Europe. During his 22-year career with Emerson Electric Co., Mr. Montupet held a number of senior leadership roles including executive vice president of Emerson Electric Co. and chief executive officer of Emerson Electric Asia-Pacific. Prior to joining Emerson, he was chairman of the board of Leroy-Somer, Inc. and chairman of Founderies Montupet SA. Currently, he also is a board member of WABCO Holdings Inc. and IHS Inc., where he serves on the Human Resources and Nominating and Governance Committees. Mr. Montupet is a trustee of both the St. Louis Public Library Foundation and the Winston Churchill National Museum.

    Debra J. Perry


    Ms. Perry was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in August 2017. She is the former senior managing director for global ratings and research at Moody’s Investors Service, a unit of Moody’s Corporation. She served as the senior business leader for the company’s Americas Corporate Finance Group and its U.S. Public Finance Group, with ratings of over $4 trillion of taxable and tax-exempt debt securities. Ms. Perry also worked in fixed income research at First Boston Corporation and in a variety of corporate lending and capital markets roles at Chemical Bank. She currently serves on the boards of Genworth Financial Inc., The Sanford C. Bernstein Fund and Korn/Ferry International, and has previously served on the boards of MBIA Inc., CNO Financial Inc., and PartnerRe Ltd.

    Paul J. Reilly


    Mr. Reilly was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in June 2011. Mr. Reilly retired as executive vice president of Arrow Electronics, Inc., effective January 2017. He served as executive vice president, finance and operations, and chief financial officer from 2001 through May 2016, and was the head of global operations from 2009 through May 2016. Mr. Reilly joined Arrow Electronics in early 1991 and held various positions within the company prior to assuming the role of chief financial officer in 2001. Before joining Arrow Electronics, Mr. Reilly worked in the business assurance practice of the New York office of KPMG Peat Marwick. Mr. Reilly is a certified public accountant. Mr. Reilly is a member of the board of directors of both Cabot Microelectronics Corporation and comScore, Inc. He is a member of the Audit Committee of both companies, Chairs the comScore, Inc. Compensation Committee and is a member of the Cabot Microelectronic Compensation Committee.

    Robert W. Stein


    Mr. Stein was elected to Assurant’s board of directors in October 2011.  He is a former global managing partner, actuarial services, at Ernst & Young. Mr. Stein joined Ernst & Young in 1976 and held various leadership roles in the firm’s actuarial and insurance practice. He is a certified public accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a trustee emeritus of the Actuarial Foundation.
