At Assurant, we are committed to supporting the local communities where we operate. Beginning in 2014, Assurant identified investments with a goal of addressing the social and environmental challenges of our communities.
With these investments, Assurant applies the same prudent portfolio management principles that guide our other investments including various economic, risk management and diversification characteristics.
Current Assurant impact investments include a:
- $3 million, multi-year investment in the Enterprise Housing Partners CalGreen Fund III LP, a multi-investor Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) vehicle. The fund exclusively invests in California real estate properties that qualify for the tax credits, helping to support the development and maintenance of low-income properties in locations where housing costs are unaffordable for many.
- $5 million, multi-year investment in the Avanath Affordable Housing Fund II. The real estate investment funds invests in affordable multifamily housing property with the goals of enhancing and maintaining long-term affordability of the properties while providing important social programs for tenants.
- $6 million, multi-year investment in the Goldman Sachs Social Impact Fund focused on neighborhood building, job creation and social innovation. Since 2002, the Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group has invested nearly $3.5 billion to help create charter schools, juvenile justice programs and affordable housing in communities such as Newark, Boston, New York City and beyond.
Assurant’s impact investing efforts are augmented by our community giving initiatives through the Assurant Foundation and by our employees.
