Mission

The Assurant Foundation, a charitable trust, provides grants to improve the quality of life in the five boroughs of New York City. The Foundation is committed to fulfilling basic needs: education, health, nutrition and housing.

Guidelines

The Assurant Foundation only supports programs of non-profit, tax-exempt organizations with an active 501c(3) status under the IRS code.

As a general policy, the Foundation does not make grants to support individuals, political parties, candidates or lobbying activities, religious organizations, fund-raising events and operating budgets.

The Foundation awards approximately 10-15 grants per quarter, with a maximum grant amount of $5,000. An application for qualified applicants is provided below.

2009 Community Involvement Highlights

  • In 2009, Assurant’s New York office raised $88,552 for United Way. The Foundation matched this amount dollar-for-dollar, bringing the grand total contribution to $177,104.
  • Employees volunteered with local NYC organizations, including God’s Love We Deliver, preparing meals for clients with AIDS/HIV and other serious illnesses.
  • The New York office also held a suit drive benefiting Dress for Success and a Thanksgiving food drive and a holiday toy drive.
  • Assurant also provided an employee “Dollars for Doers” grant to Big Brothers, Big Sisters in 2009.
