Highlights of Volunteer Projects during 2007

In 2007, the Assurant Foundation continued its strong commitment to the United Way of New York City. Through Assurant’s annual United Way Week Campaign, employees raised nearly $245,076 in pledges and fundraising activities, in addition to the company match. All proceeds were donated to the United Way to distribute among its key action areas.

In 2007, Assurant employees participated in a Secret Santa Letter program with Women In Need - an annual event gathering letters from disadvantaged children in New York City to fulfill their Christmas wishes. Employees also had the chance to host a holiday party at one of the shelters supported by Women In Need.

Employees raised money for Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale. By baking and selling delicious treats, sending “Sweet Telegrams” to friends and co-workers or attending a multicultural luncheon, Assurant employees in New York raised over $1,410 to combat childhood hunger, $2,820 including the company match.

Employees also had the opportunity to volunteer at several local NYC organizations, including Dress For Success and Women In Need (WIN). The Assurant Foundation awards each of these organizations $500. Additionally, the New York office held various on site volunteer activities, including a suit drive, daffodil sales benefiting the American Cancer Society and a Thanksgiving food drive to benefit Bailey House.

The following is a breakout of our 2007 giving totals:

  • $52,358 in matching gifts and other office fundraisers
  • $83,000 in community grants
  • $137,876 United Way match for 2007
  • $22,150 in Corporate Contributions
